East Timor Photos by Elaine BriereCanadian photographer Elaine Briere first visited East Timor in 1974, taking a series of striking photographs documenting pre-invasion East Timorese culture. She returned to East Timor last spring, when the pictures on this page were taken. In 1996 she released the award-winning video "Bitter Paradise: The Sell-out of East Timor."
