NATIONAL COUNCIL OF TIMORESE RESISTANCE CNRT COMMUNIQUE
PROTEST FOR EAST TIMOR CANBERRA, 19 JULY 1998
CNRT urges all the Timorese and supporters to take part in the protest to be held in Canberra on the 19th (Sunday) of July 1998. The aims of this protest are (i) to show the rejection of the integration of East Timor into Indonesia, (ii) to mobilise international public opinion to exert added pressure upon the government of Indonesia to respect the inalienable right of the people of East Timor to self-determination and independence, (iii) to liberate Xanana Gusmao and all the Timorese political prisoners and (iv) to show support to all the protests and initiatives undertaken by the National Council of Timorese Resistance (CNRT) - in East Timor and abroad.
On the 17th of July there will be a Press Conference in Sydney to denounce the Indonesian illegal integration of East Timor as its 27th province. Details of this media conference and protest in Canberra will be made public in due course.
All the solidarity members are urged to join this national and regional protest in order to show Jakarta the need to respect the wishes of the people of East Timor.
