Hawk Aircraft deliveries to start in July
Air Force Chief of Staff, Hanafie Asnan, announced in Jakarta today that the delivery
of 16 British Aerospace Hawk Aircraft will commence in July 1999. They will be delivered
at the rate of three per month and will see service with Indonesia's First and Fifteenth
squadrons.
[The report does not state where the Hawks will be based. These aircraft are the 200
series multi-role combat aircraft licensed for export by the Conservative administration
in November 1996. The present Government has refused to revoke the licence, but TAPOL is
continuing to campaign vigorously against the export]
