East Timor: Customs Collect Dlrs 5 Million in Import, Export Taxes 26

East Timor's fledgling customs service has collected more than dlrs 5
million in import and export duties since the tax system took effect March
20, according to official records obtained Thursday by Lusa in Dili.
Exempt from the new customs taxes were some dlrs 88.9 million of goods
imported for humanitarian purposes or for the use of the United Nations
peacekeeping force.
During the same period, the territory resumed its exportation of
coffee, shipping dlrs 2.5 million-worth of the prized beans for an export
tax value of dlrs 126,000.
