06 Jul 01 10:55 East Timor: Two Jordanian UN Police Detained in Dili on Rape Suspicions Two Jordanian policemen serving with UN peacekeepers in East Timor have been arrested in Dili on suspicion of having raped a young woman, UN police spokesman Luis Carrilho said Friday. Describing the incident as "quite serious", Carrilho told Lusa the two Jordanians were detained at a Dili hotel Thursday evening, hours after their alleged victim was admitted to hospital for treatment and observation. The two suspects, one of whom had been identified by name by the victim, a 27-year-old woman, would be arraigned before a Dili court, he added. Jordanian peacekeepers, who were vis[i]ted last month by King Abdallah, have been involved in previous cases of sexual harassment in the eastern town of Baucau and East Timor's western enclave of Oe Cusse.
