A hint of progress on Timor Sea Treaty

The chief minister of Australia's Northern Territory, Clare Martin says she has been assured the Timor Sea Treaty will be ratified during the next sitting of the national Parliament.

Earlier this week it was revealed the Australian Government had not finished drafting the ratification bill needed to open up the gas fields in the Timor Sea.

The ConocoPhillips gas venture based in the Northern Territory city of Darwin needs the treaty to be finalised by March the 11th to meet contracts with customers.

Ms Martin says she cannot give a 100 per cent guarantee, but has been told the matter will be wrapped up during the next sittings of federal parliament.
