UNMISET Dili, 14 October 2003 Daily Media Review Parliament Delegation Visits Norway and Switzerland The Speaker of the National Parliament Francisco Guterres left Dili on Friday, leading a delegation of MPs to Norway and Switzerland, the aim of the visit is to strengthen cooperation with the parliaments of the two countries. (STL) PM Alkatiri Concerned with National Broadcasting Prime Minister Alkatiri is concerned with the broadcasting of the national television, which has been constantly off due to problems with the transmitter, reported Suara Timor Lorosae on Tuesday. It was reported that Alkatiri called a meeting with the Broadcasting Interim President, Virgilio Guterres, to discuss the matter and promised to lobby the donor's countries for support to the television. According to Guterres Alkatiri also requested the establishment of a mechanism to manage funds attributed to the public broadcasting. (STL) 11, 000 Children in TL are Malnourished The Deputy Minister of Health Luis Lobato told Timor Post on Monday that according to information collected by the health clinics around the country, 11,000 Timorese children under the age of five are malnourished. Lobato said the Health Department is taken the issue very seriously and 20 per cent of these children have already received food through the malnourished program. He added that several children had to be admitted to the national hospital and their condition are under medical supervision. (STL) -END- Back to October menu |
