Timorese Officials Already In Luanda For Felino-2004 Exercises

Luanda, 10/11 - Two officials with the East Timor Army`s General Staff are already in Luanda since Saturday to attend, as observers, the 4th edition of Felino military exercises of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), scheduled for October 12-26 in Cabo Ledo, Northern Bengo province.

The Timorese delegation is led by Infantry Col. Tito da Costa Cristavo "Lere", who is accompanied by its second-lieutenant HÚlder da Costa.

The joint manoeuvres will count with the participation of around 600 special troops from the various military wings of CPLP country members, such as Angola, Portugal, Brazil, Cape-Verde, Mozambique, Sao Tome & Principe, Guinea-Bissau and East Timor.

The encounter aims to test, through crosswise exercises, the inter-operationality of the technical means of these countries` armed forces, well as create conditions that allow the development of operative capabilities of the joint forces in the execution of peacekeeping missions around the world.

This time, the exercises will occur under FTX (Field training Exercise) format, in Cabo Ledo locality, 120 kms to the South of Luanda.

Portugal and Brazil hosted the 2000 and 2001 editions, repectively, whereas Mozambique hosted the 2003 event.

The next exercises will take place in 2005 in Cape Verde.
