Notícia SIR-7802016 Temas: East Timor: Macau to provide aid against contagious diseases Macau, March 8 (Lusa) - Macau has agreed to aid East Timor in fighting contagious diseases, according to published comments Wednesday by Dili's health minister. The territory's daily newspaper Ponto Final quoted Health Minister Rui Araujo, who visited Macau Tuesday, as saying the aid would likely take the form of training for Timorese healthcare personnel. China already helps East Timor in the health field through a 10- member medical team. In a related development, Araujo forecast that present levels of investment in health care would give East Timor doctor per 1,000 inhabitants by 2015 in contrast to the current ratio of one to 4,625. The prediction is included in Araujo's masters thesis, which is to be published as a book in Portugal Wednesday. According to the thesis, East Timor currently has 200 physicians, all but 22 of them expatriates. JCS/EL/SAS. Lusa Copyright © 2003 Agencia Lusa.
