Angola, East Timor sign complementary protocol

Luanda ­ A protocol complementary to the Economic, Trade, Technical, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation Accord was signed Friday in Luanda, between the Angolan Foreign minister, Assunçao dos Anjos, and his Timorese counterpart, Zacarias Albano da Costa.

The protocol is also complementary to an agreement on the creation of the Angola-East Timor Joint Commission.

At the end of the signing, Angolan Foreign minister expressed satisfaction and highlighted the fact that the accord is a far-reaching deal as, he added, it covers all areas of the political and economic affairs.

He said that the two countries are for this reason “deeply” excited with this cooperation, pledging that Angola will do its best to make the deal profitable and reach desired goals.

Assunção dos Anjos announced that experts from the two countries will meet early in July this year , covering the various sectors, to identify concrete areas of action.

The Angolan official said Timorese technicians will travel to Angola for upgrading training in various spheres in July this year.

In his turn, the Timorese Foreign minister, Zacarias Albano da Costa, said the accord is the turning of a new era in the cooperation between the two countries.

Zacarias Albano da Costa stated that cooperation between the two countries will gain a deeper meaning, as the two sides wish a speedier process.

Luanda Xanana Gusmão happy with Angola visit

Luanda - The East-Timor minister, Xanana Gusmão, said Friday in Luanda he is returning satisfied to his country as his visit to Angola permitted to open various cooperation perspectives.

Xanana Gusmão was speaking to the press after a meeting with the Luanda governor, Francisca do Espírito Santo.

He said his stay in Angola was “greatly profitable and rather than reinitiating, it will initiate a phase of a much more intense cooperation”.

According to Xanana Gusmão, the two countries have much similarities, mainly in the fact that they possess oil, stressing that Angolans’ experience in the field will help the Timorese to tread safely.

The Timorese prime minister who is in Angola for a six-day official visit, also expressed satisfaction at the results of the meetings he has so far held with the authorities.
