On 31 Jan (Sun), PANG TNI [Indonesian Armed Forces Commander] Gen Djoko Santoso ordered TNI personnel guarding the Timor Leste [East Timor] and Australian borders to tighten security in the region. The location of the border areas, comprised of islands that are in need of adequate transportation and communications infrastructure, must be secured.

PANG TNI added that the TNI must guard the democratic transition currently taking place through reforms to maintain national stability. To ensure success in this transition, the TNI must cooperate with the police and the government.
