The
Oscar-nominated documentary, THE LOOK OF
SILENCE
will be broadcast Monday, June 27, on
the PBS documentary showcase POV. We
urge you to watch this important and
disturbing film and then take action on
U.S. support for mass violence in
Indonesia.
THE LOOK OF
SILENCE follows the investigation of
Adi Rukun into the death
of his older brother who was murdered
during the 1965/6 mass violence in
Indonesia. It is the companion film to
the Oscar-nominated The Act of Killing.
These
powerful films tell us as much about
Indonesia today as they do about the
past. However, any examination of these
events must include a
discussion of the role of Western powers
in the violence, especially the United
States. The East Timor and Indonesia Action Network (ETAN) continues to call
for accountability for those in the West
who encouraged and assisted in the mass
violence in Indonesia from 1965 on. The
full truth must come out; the U.S.
should declassify all files related to
Suharto's U.S.-backed seizure of power
and the murderous events which followed.
ETAN urges
you to watch THE LOOK OF SILENCE and
then join our call
for U.S. accountability for its role in
the massacres that followed Suharto's
brutal seizure of power.
ETAN has prepared a backgrounder focused
on the U.S. role and responsibility for
the crime against humanity committed
during and after Suharto's brutal
seizure of power. Read

Indonesia's Mass Violence.
