Feb 11 18:29 VP To Form Working Group To Help Former E Timor Refugees Kupang (ANTARA News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla has promised to form a working group to settle the affairs of former East Timorese refugees in cooperation with the Committee of East Timor Political Victims (KOKPIT), a committee spokesman said. KOKPIT legal consultant Hukman Reni, when contacted by phone, said in Jakarta on Saturday, in order to directly meet the former refugees` needs, the practice of assisting them by resettling them and providing them with house building materials would be changed. He made the statement after a meeting with Jusuf Kalla in Jakarta on Friday night. With a number of KOKPIT organizers, Hukman Reni met the vice president to discuss the issue on the management of the former East Timor refugees in Indonesia and on Indonesian assets left behind in East Timor after the 1999 referendum. At the meeting, Hukman Reni was accompanied by KOKPIT chairman Batista Sufa Kefi, general secretary Salataning, treasurer Gede Prayogo and South Sulawesi representative Hasan Basri. "The vice president really understands our complaint, because he has been keeping up with the issue since he was the minister of people`s welfare," Hukman Reni said. About the Indonesian assets left behind in East Timor, Hukman said the vice president would try to find a solution that would allow the use of state budget funds.(*) Shop online for new and used books at Powell's & support ETAN - http://www.powells.com/ppbs/30520.html
