(with photos) KUWAIT, Oct 29 (KUNA) -- Planning and Finance Minister of Timor-Leste Emilia Pires said here Wednesday that her country is looking forward to cooperate economically with Kuwait.

Speaking to reporters, Pires said Timor-Leste is glad to benefit from the knowledge, skills, and expertise of Kuwait in the oil field.

"Kuwait is far ahead of us," she said.

In response to a question by KUNA, the minister assured Kuwaiti investors that the security situation in her country is stable, adding that order was restored following the assassination attempt on Timor-Leste's President Jose Ramos-Horta and Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao last February.

All armed rebels who were roaming in the mountains surrendered without firing a single shot and are now in jail, she stressed.

In addition, the crisis caused by a group of "petitioners", about 800 former army personnel who claimed they had been subjected to discrimination, was ended through dialogue, she pointed out.

She also said that her country's Ministry of Social Solidarity is also working on solving the problem of refugees, closing 28 out of 54 camps.

The delegation of Timor-Leste, accompanying the country's Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao on his three-day visit to Kuwait, met with officials from Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and discussed investment opportunities in Timor-Leste, she said.

As Timor-Leste is a fledgling country, investment opportunities in all fields are available, she added.(end) ris KUNA 291235 Oct 08NNNN
