This meeting was the first since the handover of the Final Report of the RI-TL Commission of Truth and Friendship (CTF). This meeting is to share ideas on the actions called for in the Joint Statement, issued on 15 July 2008 in Bali by the Leaders of RI-TL, to implement the recommendations of the said Report as well as other relevant initiatives to further promote reconciliation and friendship between the two countries. The Senior Officials shared the progress in disseminating the CTF Report by their respective governments. They also hadconcrete discussions on potential new areas of cooperation for a plan of action to be developed, building on the already existing bilateral programs. It was well understood that the implementation of the recommendations would require national undertakings by the respective governments as well as joint RI-TL collaborations. Potential areas for further cooperation cover a wide range of sectors such as education and cultural exchanges, provision of health services including 'trauma healing' support, immigration and consular matters, capacity building programs at all levels including for civil societies, and enhanced border cooperation, among many others. The two delegations agreed to conduct regular meetings, both at the Senior Officials and Technical Levels, within the umbrella of the existing RI-TL Joint Ministerial Commission Meeting. Both delegations agreed to convene subsequent meetings before the end of the year to finalize the details of the follow-up actions to the CTF recommendations. The Timor-Leste delegation was led by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, H.E. Ms. Vicky Tchong.
