Relief Projects Seeking Contributions for East Timor

The East Timor Relief Fund is continuing to raise money for direct aid to East Timorese in the occupied territory and the diaspora. In the past few months we’ve sent several thousand dollars to organizations inside East Timor supporting street children and war orphans and have sent scholarship money to a foundation for East Timorese students studying in Indonesia. If you’d like more information about the projects we’re supporting, contact the East Timor Relief Fund at P.O. Box 420832, San Francisco, CA 94142 or call 415-522-9988. Tax-deductible donations can be made out to Global Exchange; please include "East Timor Relief" in the memo line.

Medical Aid for East Timor is raising funds for humanitarian projects inside East Timor. They are selling a handsome four color on black T-shirt featuring a traditional Timorese crocodile ethnographic and the words "Free East Timor." The cost is $21 and includes postage and handling. Half the proceeds go to East Timorese organizations; the other half pays for costs of materials and further fund-raising activities. The group is also collecting medical books and instruments (stethoscopes, etc.) to send to East Timor. To buy a t-shirt or to make a contribution for East Timorese orphanages, scholarships or medical support (make checks payable to ETAN/Madison), or for more information, contact Tom Foley at Medical Aid for East Timor, 608-241-9135; PO Box 3382, Madison, WI, 53704.
