Timor/UN: 26 organisations demand inclusion of resistance representatives in talks between
Indonesia and Portugal on East Timor
Washington, 05 Aug (Lusa) -
Twenty six non-governmental organisation have appealed for the inclusion of East Timorese
resistance leaders in the talks between the foreign ministers of Portugal and Indonesia
under the auspices of the United Nations, which began in New York on Tuesday. The demand
is contained in a letter sent by the International Federation of East Timor to Portuguese
Foreign Minister Jaime Gama, his Indonesian counterpart Ali Alatas and UN
Secretary-General Kofi Annan earlier this week. The letter states that it would be
unacceptable to the East Timorese resistance movement to "accept a solution that has
been reached only by others". The International Federation of East Timor comprises 26
organisation in 17 countries.
