Timor/Australia: FRETILIN congress debates political programme
Sydney, 17 Aug (Lusa) - East Timor's FRETILIN movement in Sydney on Sunday continued to
its future political programme ''within the context of the present (political)
situation,'' according to a spokesman for the movement that is fighting Indonesia's
illegal annexation of the half-island off northern Australia. The about 50 participants in
FRETILIN's national conference are discussing a political programme proposed by Mari
Alkatiri, foreign relations secretary of the movement. The proposed programme covers the
''creation and consolidation of national unity and the foundation of the sovereign,
independent and democratic State of East Timor.''
Mau-Hodo, a freedom fighter who was part of jailed resistance leader Xanana Gusmao
guerrillas in East Timor's mountains is among the five East Timorese who travelled from
their occupied home land to Sydney to take part in the congress. The conference ends on
Thursday.-Lusa nnnn
