Expo 98 - Flag of East Timor hoisted for the first time at the world fair
Lisbon, 06 Aug (Lusa) - Hundreds of East Timorese in Lisbon on Wednesday attended the
hoisting of the flag of East Timor at the Expo 98 world fair in Lisbon. It was the first
that an East Timorese flag-raising ceremony was held at the world exposition. The ceremony
was attended by the vice-president of the Timorese National Resistance Council, Nobel
Peace Prize co-laureate Ramos Horta. A group of young East Timorese sang their homeland's
anthem during the ceremony which marked the world fair's East Timor Day. East Timor has
its own pavilion at the world fair.
