Governor calls for release of jailed rebel leader Xanana Gusmao
Dili, 12 Jun (Lusa) - The Governor of East Timor, Abilio Osorio Soares appealed on
Thursday for the release of jailed rebel leader Xanana Gusmao, saying that it was
"the key for a peaceful solution" for the territory's problems. "Not only
Xanana, but all the political prisoners should be released, because all them have an
important role to play in the solution of the conflict in East Timor", Soares said
during an interview. Soares added that he intended to meet Xanana during a visit to
Jakarta this week to discuss the problems of the territory.-Lusa nnnn
