Pro-Indonesian Governor to take part in intra-Timorese meeting in Australia [sic]
Jakarta, Oct. 26 (Lusa) - East Timor's controversial pro-Indonesian governor, Abilio
Osorio Soares, has said he will take part in the fourth "intra-Timorese" meeting
in Austria bettween 31 October and 2 November at the "personal" invitation of UN
Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Soares told the Indonesian news agency Antara on Sunday he
would participate in the meeting near Vienna as a "good listener", adding he
hoped the meeting could lead to concrete measures improving the life of the East Timorese
population.
Soares urged East Timorese Nobel Peace Prize co-laureate to visit to his homeland,
saying it was "very easy to scream for freedom" outside East Timor. Soares last
month threated to fire all civil servants in East Timor failing to support, in writing,
Jakarta's proposed autonomy for the occupied territory.
