NAMES: Felisberto Maria dos Santos, 44 (alias Sole-Solep) Jose Sobral, 40 Marcelino
Fatima dos Santos, 29
VIOLATIONS: "Disappearance" / Arbitrary detention
LOCATION: Unknown location in East Timor
Ref: UA 9/97PR3 Previous reports: UA 9/97; UA 9/97PR, UA 9/97PR2
The East Timor Human Rights Centre has received confirmation that Jose Sobral and
Marcelino Fatima dos Santos who were arrested on 30 March, 1997, by Indonesian security
force personnel (see UA 9/97 and UA 9/97PR for details) have been released. The date of
their release is not known, however it is believed that the two men may have been released
in about March this year.
Grave fears are still held for the safety of Felisberto Maria dos Santos (alias
Sole-Solep), the other man arrested with Jose Sobral and Marcelino Fatima dos Santos.
Sole-Solep is still missing, despite internal steps taken to locate him and the ETHRC
believes he may be held in incommunicado detention at an unknown detention centre.
Please continue appeals on Sole-Solep's behalf as requested in urgent action report UA
9/97PR2 dated 5 October 1998.
