Timor/Australia: Democratic Timorese Union (UDT) holds "Open-door" meeting in
Dili
Sydney, Sept. 14 (Lusa) - About 200 people participated in Dili on Sunday in an
"open-door" meeting of the Democratic Timorese Union (UDT) in Dili, capital of
the occupied territory of East Timor.
National Unity and the future of political dialogue among East Timor's different
political movement were the general meeting's main topics. Leandro Issac, vice-president
of the Higher Political Council of the Democratic Timorese Union, told LUSA in Sydney by
telephone from Dili the meeting had taken place without any intervention by the Indonesian
occupation forces. Representatives of other political parties, namely FRETILIN, Kota,
Worker's Party (Partido Trabalhista) and APODETI, as well as as members of the Movement of
Unity and Reconciliation of the People of East Timor, attended the five-hour meeting. Joao
Carrascalao, the leader of the UDT living in exile in Sydney, took part in the meeting
through the direct telephone message to the participants.
