East Timor: Border markets, crossing points open in November - Jakarta
official
Kupang, Indonesia, Aug. 28 (Lusa) - Indonesian officials in West Timor
said Thursday that a bilateral agreement with Dili on cross- border
movement and markets on the divided island would be implemented in
November.
The head of West Timor's commerce and industry department, Supartantyo,
said that Jakarta had already made funds available for the construction of
seven border markets and the setting up of nine frontier crossing points.
Observers in Dili viewed the announcement as a further sign of
normalizing relations between East Timor and the former occupying power,
Indonesia.
The border accord was signed in Jakarta in June, during a visit to the
Indonesian capital by Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri.
