East Timor: Lisbon finances work training and poverty combat programs

Dili, July 24 (Lusa) - The Portuguese government has signed a euros 1.8 million aid package to finance professional training and anti-poverty programs in East Timor.

The cooperation agreement was signed Wednesday in Dili by Lisbon`s minister of labor and social security, António José de Castro Bagão Félix, and Timor's state secretary of labor and solidarity, Arsénio Bano.

The largest slice of the package (euros 1.5 million) will finance professional training courses through Timor`s National Labor and Professional Traning Center (CNEFP), a Lisbon-funded institution.

Community programs to combat Timor`s widespread poverty will also be financed by the Portuguese aid, as well as pilot farming projects, reintegration of agricultural workers and support to war widows and ex-independence fighters.
