15 DEZ 98 - 08:45 East Timor/Portugal: 2,000 students gather outside "parliament"

Lisbon, Dec 15 (Lusa) - About 2,000 students gathered outside East Timor's "parliament" on Monday, vowing to remain there until the Indonesian government accepts negotiations with the East Timorese resistance movement. The students began to gather outside the building in Dili, capital of the occupied territory of East Timor, at 9 am on Monday, according to a member of the National Timorese Resistance Council (CNRT) who talked to LUSA in Lisbon by telephone from Dili. The students also protest against the Indonesian military's refusal to allow an independent commission access to the village of Alas, where Indonesian troops reportedly killed scores of civilians several weeks ago.-Lusa nnnn
