Ramos Horta May be Authorized to Enter Indonesia - Justice Minister Muladi
Jakarta, Feb. 10 (Lusa) - The overseas representative of the Timorese National
Resistance Council (CNRT), Jose Ramos Horta, may be authorized to enter Indonesia, Justice
Minister Muladi announced Wednesday before a Jakarta cabinet meeting. "We are not
inviting him, but we are not excluding that possibility", he added. Ramos Horta and
Bishop Carlos Ximenes Belo were awarded the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to
achieve a peaceful solution to the problem of East Timor, the half-island occupied by
Indonesia since 1975. If his presence is needed at negotiations on the territory's future,
then Ramos Horta's name could easily be removed from a black list of East Timorese
forbidden to enter Indonesia, Muladi said. The announcement on Ramos Horta was made the
same day that jailed CNRT leader Xanana Gusmao was transferred from prison to house arrest
in the center of Jakarta.
